Effective brand storytelling should be rooted in consumer/market research and a true understanding of the frustrations of consumers.
Comprehensive research helps you find out what the pain points consumers face with products in your industry.
In what way does your product address that issue? (that’s your message)
To connect with consumers, you must communicate that message in a way that is emotionally engaging.
The “it floats” ad by Ivory soap is a great example.
A problem at that time was that the soap sank to the bottom of the tub when taking a bath.

Important points to consider

  • Brand stories shouldn’t be solely for the sake of telling stories. The objectives of why a brand story needs to be told must be defined and clear to all stakeholders involved in creating that story. This way you will be able to create stories that are compelling and resonate with audiences
  • Authenticity is essential to your story
  • Storytellers should avoid taking advantage of people’s feelings, as people can always see through a fake story
  • It is important to keep the audience’s time in mind; why is your story worth listening to?
  • Your story’s appeal
  • What does your audience stand to gain from your story?

In conclusion, we all enjoy stories, the same reason we enjoy movies, every successful movie ever made had an amazing story that reverberated with the audience.
